ATLANTIS
Perhaps this is the most popular and well-known lost city. Atlantis was destroyed by floods and earthquake more than 10,000 years ago. Some researchers have claimed that this legendary lost world truly existed and the survivors were responsible for the pyramids and Stonehenge.
2. AVALON
This legendary lost world is an island where King Arthur’s Excalibur was made. This is also the same island where Arthur was taken to heal after getting injured in the Battle of Camlann.
3. EL DORADO
When Mexico was invaded by the Spanish in the 16th century, a rumor spread that there was a city made completely of gold and was ruled by a king known as El Dorado. This meant the gilded king. While there are some facts to support the existence of El Dorado, the city of gold has never been found till date.
4. CANTRE’R GWAELOD
This is the legendary city of Wales. It is said to be a kingdom that was located between Bardsley Island and Ramsey Island, but sank under sea. While there is no real evidence of the city, many divers have seen causeways, stonewalls and homes under the water in the said location.
5. LYONESSE
This legendary lost world is said to be the home of one of King Arthur’s knights, Tristan. While the exact location of Lyonesse has never been found in any written text, it is claimed that it sunk under the sea, according to Celtic, Breton and Cornish mythologies. Lyonesse is part of Cornwall’s culture and history, and many believe that the Isles of Scilly are the location for this mythical lost world.
6. HY-BRASIL
According to Irish folklore, Hy-Brasil is an island covered with mist and can be seen by the naked eye once in seven years, but no one can reach it. Many expeditions in the 15 centuries were taken to find this island, but in vain. It is believed that Hy-Brasil could be Porcupine Bank, a shoal that is about 200 kilometers from the Irish coast, on the west.
7. AGHARTI
This legendary lost world is said to be an underground world that is connected to all corners of the world by a system of tunnel. This world is said to be occupied by peace loving people. The legend of Agharti is extremely old, and even Plato and Pliny have made reference to it.
8. SHAMBALA
This is a Sanskrit word meaning mystical land is said be located somewhere on a snowy mountain and can be reached from everywhere. Many explorers have tried to find it, but never succeeded. Some explorers have even disappeared with a trace.
9. CIBOLA
The Spanish conquistadores tried to search for 7 cities of Cibola in North America, but could not. It is claimed that the cities are filled with wealth. These fabled cities appear to bear some resemblance to the city of El Dorado.
10. LEMURIA
This legendary lost world is said to be a continent that sunk. It was supposed to be located in the Indian or Pacific Ocean and was home to ape-like giants, who were telepathic. It is said that due to a huge earthquake about 12,000 years ago, this content was destroyed and sank under the sea.
