Japan chemical factory explosion leaves five dead and 17 injured

Investigators suspect the blast was caused by a chemical reaction

AN explosion at a chemical factory in central Japan has killed at least five workers and injured 17 others.Investigators suspect the blast at metal and chemical company Mitsubishi Materials Corporation's Yokkaichi plant was caused by a chemical reaction involving hydrogen.

The blast appeared to have occurred when plant workers were rinsing heat exchange equipment at the silicone plant during maintenance, according to a police source.
The dead and injured were all believed to be workers at the factory which is located 220 miles west of Tokyo
